Harare – Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will cost less this month after the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) reduced benchmark tariffs for August 2025, bringing relief to consumers in both US dollar and Zimbabwean currency terms.

The new prices set LPG at US$1.51 per kilogram, down from US$1.57, while the local currency price falls from ZWG42.31 to ZWG40.56 per kilogram.

“These updated LPG prices reflect our commitment to fair energy pricing in accordance with the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations established in 2021,” ZERA in a statement.

The regulator added that some retailers may offer even lower prices, promoting competition while protecting consumers.

ZERA’s 2024 Annual Performance Report shows that LPG consumption climbed to 77 million kilograms last year, supported by a network of 622 licensed retail outlets and a 93.7% compliance rate.

Illegal vending remains a challenge for the sector, although ZERA credits its crackdown on smuggled cylinders for improving compliance.

Following an increase in gas-related accidents, the authority urged operators and the public to prioritise safe handling practices and to source LPG only from licensed dealers using approved equipment.
