Aspiring Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)vice presidency candidate Gift Banda has been arrested on allegations of forging Ordinary Level certificate.
The Bulawayo based prominent business mogul and former deputy major of the same sent papers for nomination in the forthcoming ZIFA elections set for early January 2025. According to the guidelines, Banda and any other candidates should have five O- Levels passes.
This is where the former ZIFA vice president is alleged to have forged certificates for him to file for nomination.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi highlighted that Banda‘s documents claims that he passed the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) tests in 1986 at Mpopoma High school in Bulawayo, yet during that period all schools offered Cambridge examinations.
T ZIMSEC was introduced in 1996 yet the former ZIFA vice President’s certificate claims he wrote it 10 years before its introduction if the allegations turn out to be true.
Bulawayo based Anele Zikhali has also been arrested as the alleged culprit behind forging fake ordinary level certificate for the former vice president and aspiring candidate Banda. Commissioner Nyathi said more details about the will be revealed as investigations continues.
Elsewhere, allegations also surfacing t that the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) ministries, Walter Magaya who wants to be the ZIFA president might also be in a quagmire around the O level requirement but the Prophet is said to be able to circumvent those requirements through possessing several professional certifications.
