Zimbabwean mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Themba Gorimbo was defeated by Brazillian Vicente Luque by anaconda choke just 52 seconds into their ultimately fighting championship (UFC) fight in Las Vegas.

Vicente has set a new record for fastest anaconda choke in UFC history and the inverse is true for Gorimbo suffering the fastest anaconda choke.

After the fight Gorimbo posted on his social media page saying “I failed last night, but deep down, the race is far from over,” Gorimbo said, reflecting on the weekend setback.

The Zimbabwean-born fighter is already looking forward to making a comeback after his recent failure.

“My story will be the greatest story in combat sports history. I will make my comeback and go on to be a champion,” said Gorimbo

In 2024, Gorimbo has competed against Pete Rodriguez, Ramiz Brahimaj, Niko Price, and Vicente Luque. His record for the year stands at 3 wins and 1 loss, with the sole defeat coming at the hands of Vicente Luque.

Themba Gorimbo’s fans where disappointed by seeing mamba being chocked and defeated in less than a minute but are sharing his optimism for a comeback.
