The Government has taken another step in strengthening support for veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle by providing them with utility vehicles aimed at improving service delivery and outreach across the country.

The 29 vehicles, which were commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in June, were officially handed over this Thursday to district field officers from the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Ministry.

The vehicles will be deployed at district level to help officers reach veterans in both urban and remote areas.

Speaking at the handover, Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Senator Monica Mavhunga, said the initiative was designed to remove long-standing logistical barriers to delivering welfare support.

“Our veterans sacrificed their youth, education, comfort and, for some, their lives to secure the freedom we enjoy. Limited mobility has delayed welfare assistance, slowed memorialisation and reburial projects, and limited home visits. With these vehicles, we can now reach veterans wherever they live, move documents quickly, respond to needs without delay, monitor projects, and make the Ministry’s presence more visible in communities,” she said.

The handover is part of a wider government programme to improve the welfare of liberation war veterans, including better access to healthcare, land allocations, and empowerment projects in recognition of their role in securing Zimbabwe’s independence.
