Michael Nyathi (30) from Khanda village,under Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru has  been doing community service for assaulting his creditor, Justice Nyathi, who is aged 29 over a $5 debt. The incident happened when Justice Nyathi visited Michael’s homestead to collect the owed amount.

Michael Nyathi was convicted and sentenced by Gweru Magistrate Court.

Michael Nyathi was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, of which 6 months were suspended for 5 years. The remaining 18 months imprisonment were suspended on condition that he completes community service.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the complainant, Justice Nyathi went to the accused person’s homestead in Khanda Village, Chief Sogwala, Lower Gweru to claim USDS owed to him by Michael Nyathi.

This did not go down well with Michael Nyathi, who rushed into his hut and took an unidentified object and struck the head of Justice. He fell on the ground and became unconscious, and regained his consciousness upon admission at hospital.

He sustained a deep cut on the head and another deep cut on the face as a result of this assault.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), is encouraging members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
