Mabuya Hali a 39-year-old game ranger from Hwange, has been remanded in custody for illegal hunting and  killing of three lions, one male and two female using a 458 rifle at Hwange National Park. He was convicted and sentenced by Hwange Magistrates Court.

Mabuya Hali was remanded in custody to the 1st of November 2024.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ),  reports that Mabuya Hali who is employed by the Hwange National Park as a game ranger unlawfully killed 3 lions, one male and two female using a 458 riffle and went away unnoticed.

On the 22nd of October Hali approached his workmate who works in the armory section and requested her to change the dates when the accused person returned the rifle.

The request by Hali raised some suspicions and an investigation was conducted.

It was discovered that Hali was in possession of 52 live rounds and 30 rounds of .458 which he had not been issued with by the employer and a spent 458 cartridge was recovered at the scene where the lion carcasses were found.
