The Hwange Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 20 year old man to imprisonment after he was found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.

The incident reportedly took place in May 2025, when the victim a 15 year old form three student, visited Mwemba Village to watch a football match.

While waiting for the game to start, she reportedly visited the offender’s residence, where she was invited into his bedroom. It was there that they engaged in sexual intercourse, with the two reportedly continuing the activities on multiple occasions.

The situation was uncovered when the victim visited the offender’s home and spent the night there. The following morning, her younger sister noticed the pair in the victim’s bedroom around 7:00 AM and alerted their parents. A report was subsequently made to the Hwange Police, leading to the offender’s arrest.

In court, the offender was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. However, six months of the sentence was suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offense during that period. Additionally, 12 months were suspended on condition that he completes 420 hours of community service.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat sexual offenses and protect minors from exploitation.
