The International Organisation For Migration (IOM) Chair Dr Katharina Stasch toured the Beitbridge Reception and Support Centre in the company of the Minister of Public Service , Labour and Social Welfare, Honourable  July Moyo and Minister of State in Matabeleland South Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu.

The tour gave Dr Stasch, and the two Ministers a full glare of the work Government is doing in partnership with the development partners espoused by the IOM at the Beitbridge Reception and Support Centre which takes in mostly deportees from South Africa.

The delegation was taken on a tour of the facility led by the superintendent of the centre where they got first-hand information on how the place has been spruced up to its current state.

Dr Stasch said she was happy to have chosen to come to Zimbabwe to have a first-hand appreciation of the migration issues in the country.

Some of the key areas that have been spruced up include the dormitories which come with a cold room, kitchen and solar powered geyser, a phone charging area, a resting bay and the main kitchen containing very large pots to cater for many people. The centre now has three 10 000 litre tanks and the borehole no longer relies on grid electricity as it has solar power back up ensuring the place has water always.

Unfortunately the clinic is currently not functional and the Minister of State for Matabeleland South Honourable Evelyn Ndlovu promised to liase with counterparts from the Ministry of Health to get the clinic functioning again

The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Honourable July Moyo said he is pleased with how the Government has managed to face lift the centre with the help of development partners.

Various Government agencies involved in the border management also took the opportunity to present how they work together when it comes to migration, these included Immigration, Labour Department, Zimbabwe Prison Service and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
