In a shocking incident that has reverberated throughout Zimbabwe, investigative journalist Watson Munyaka has died.

According to reports, Munyaka, who contributed significantly to Dug Up, a publication recognized for its bold exposés, was reportedly abducted and later thrown from a moving vehicle in Marondera on Tuesday.

His tragic death was confirmed by Maynard Manyowa, a senior investigative journalist and producer at Dug Up.

Manyowa took to social media to share the heartbreaking news.

“Watson was murdered and his body was dumped in Marondera this afternoon. According to hospital staff, neither expensive gadgets nor money were removed from his body which makes us believe he may have been targeted for work with us,” he wrote

Describing Munyaka as an essential part of their investigative efforts, Manyowa mourned, “I have lost a brother, a friend, and a rock behind the scenes.”

Munyaka was known for his fearless journalism and played a critical role in gathering intelligence for pivotal investigations.

In a subsequent post, Manyowa expressed concerns regarding the investigation into Munyaka’s death, stating, “given the nature of Watson’s recent work, we can’t help but be both suspicious and terrified.”

This sentiment has sparked rampant speculation within the media community, with many suspecting a connection between Munyaka’s murder and his journalistic endeavors focusing on corruption and political scandals.

As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the circumstances of the murder.
