Chief Justice Luke Malaba officially opened the 2025 legal year at the Bulawayo High Court, marking a new chapter in the judiciary’s approach to justice.
This landmark event aligns with the Government’s ongoing devolution agenda and was celebrated with simultaneous ceremonies across the nation in Harare, Mutare, Masvingo, and Chinhoyi.
In Bulawayo, Chief Justice Malaba underscored the importance of collaboration between the judiciary and various stakeholders.
“The judiciary will work with other stakeholders to ensure that justice is served,” he stated.
His call for joint action is part of this year’s theme, “Building Public Confidence in the Judiciary Through Stakeholder Participation,” which seeks to enhance trust, inclusivity, transparency, and accountability within the legal system.
Reflecting on the pivotal role of the media and non-governmental organizations, Justice Malaba noted their contributions to raising public awareness about justice delivery.
He also urged the Judiciary Service Commission to implement policies ensuring judicial independence and accountability.
Deputy Chief Justice Mrs. Elizabeth Gwaunza, presiding over the event in Harare, echoed this sentiment, calling for strengthened collaboration between the judiciary and the public.
“This year’s theme reminds us of the power of collective effort in delivering justice,” she emphasized.
“By working together with all stakeholders, we can strengthen public trust in the judiciary and ensure that it continues to serve with transparency and fairness,” she added.
Throughout the concurrent ceremonies, judges including Mrs. Marie-Anne Gowora in Masvingo and Justice Ben Hlatshwayo in Mutare also highlighted the importance of stakeholder engagement, while Deputy Judge President Justice Garainesu Mawadze presided over proceedings at the Chinhoyi High Court.
“Together, we can build a judiciary that inspires confidence and fully serves the interests of all citizens,” concluded Chief Justice Malaba, reinforcing the day’s overarching message of collaboration and collective responsibility in the pursuit of justice.
