The Kenyan Government has removed Electronic Travel Authorisation fees for Zimbabweans travelling to the East African country. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade confirmed the development.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade wishes to inform the public that the Government of Kenya no longer requires Zimbabwean travellers to pay for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) when they apply to visit Kenya,” indicated the Ministry.

In place of the ETA, Zimbabweans wishing to travel to Kenya will have just apply for authorisation meant for identification purposes.

“Instead, the Government of Kenya requires Zimbabwean travellers to apply for authorisation on the digital platforms for the purposes of identification.”

The implementation of the ETA system by Kenyan authorities had stirred a myriad of reactions with travellers branding the system cumbersome and restrictive. Unveiled on January 5, 2024, the system mandated travelers, excluding East Africans, to apply for the ETA, but Zimbabweans can heave a sigh of relief as the country has been taken off those that require an ETA to enter Kenya.

The development comes hard on the heels of a successful Zimbabwe-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation in Harare.
