A local philanthropic organisation , Luck Care foundation used the Unity Day holiday to unite the community of Dzivarasekwa constituency against the scourge of Drug abuse through sport.
The prestigious sporting event featured soccer and netball and was graced by various government and ruling party officials.
Speaking at the occasion, Zanu PF Senator and Politiburo member Cde Omega Hungwe who was also the guest of hour thanked the event organisers for their effort in combating the abuse of drugs in Dzivarasekwa Constituency.
She also reminded the huge crowd about the unity of purpose in fighting against drug and substance abuse as the country was also celebrating Unity day.
“As we are celebrating unity day let also work together to fight drug abuse in our community and I would like to thank the event organisers for coming up with such a great initiative for Dzivarasekwa community,” said the Senator.
Luck Care founder Luckson Gapa expressed his gratitude to everyone for gracing the occasion and he was clear on the effects of drugs urging people to desist from taking them.
“I think we should keep on organising such drug and substance awareness events since they are key in transforming our community and if it’s necessary to you as well just tell me even tomorrow we can have another one like this,” said a jubilant Gapa.
He also extended his generosity by publicly announcing his willingness to pay affiliation fees to any team whether its soccer or netball in the constituency.
“I’m going to pay affiliation fees to teams which are facing financial challenges as long as its from Dzivarasekwa constituency as we intensify our fight against drug and substance abuse,” added Gapa.
Nehanda F.C and Alpha netball team emerged as victors to clinch the Luck Care tourney held as part of the awareness drive.Besides the sports , the event had Nyau dancers keeping the crowd entertained before King Shaddy,Ndunge Yut and boss Pumacol serenaded the colourful event.
All teams that participated received cash prizes then trophy and medals for winning teams and runner-ups.
