The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has officially released the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Bench-marking Tool (GBT) Assessment Report, signifying a significant milestone in enhancing transparency and regulatory effectiveness. This announcement follows the completion of the assessment conducted by the WHO Regulatory Systems Strengthening Team from May 14th to 15th, 2024.
The assessment report is now publicly accessible on the MCAZ website, marking a pivotal step in the authority’s commitment to core values such as customer focus, integrity, and accountability.
“Transparency is essential in building trust with our stakeholders and customers, stated an MCAZ, by making this report available, we aim to provide deeper insights into our policies, practices, and processes, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions and understand how they can support MCAZ in its responsibilities.” stated the press release
The MCAZ’s decision to release the WHO GBT Assessment Report sets it apart from other National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) that have undergone similar evaluations but have not yet made their findings public.
The authority believes that this commitment to transparency is vital for fostering trust and advancing the development of NRAs, whose primary mission is to serve the public interest.
MCAZ hopes that its example will inspire other NRAs to follow suit, as this openness can expedite global learning and development processes within the regulatory community.
“Our stakeholders have a right to understand how we operate, and we are proud to lead this initiative,”
Meanwhile, MCAZ encourages all stakeholders to review the report and provide feedback, reinforcing its commitment to continuous improvement and regulatory excellence.
