Nigeria’s U17 women’s football team has advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Ecuador 4-0 in the 2024 U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup being held in the Dominican Republic.

Following a remarkable performance in their opening match where they won 4-1 against New Zealand, the Nigerian Super Flamingos continued to showcase an outstanding performance, outclassing Ecuador to secure their spot in the quarterfinals with an impressive scoring margin.

Teen sensation forward, Shakirat Moshood led the charge by scoring a brace, while teammates Chidi Harmony and Peace Effiong each contributed one goal.

Moshood’s brace positions her as one of the tournament’s leading goal scorers, alongside North Korea’s Choe Rim Jong, with both players tallying three goals.

In other matches, defending champions Spain U17 shone brightly, defeating Korea Republic 5-0. With these impressive victories, both the Super Flamingos and the Spaniards have secured their places in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Kenya and Zambia have suffered back-to-back losses, diminishing their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals. It now seems likely that their journey in the 2024 World Cup may come to an end.
