Beitbridge Junior Mayor BoyBoy Mosia is raising awareness against drug and substance abuse, citing its detrimental impact on the community and the future of its youth.
Giving a speech at a recent cleaning campaign, he emphasized the urgent need for initiatives that educate all age groups on the dangers of drug use, aligning with the theme “Not in Our Town, Say No to Drug and Substance Abuse.”
In an interview with Ziyah News Network, the junior mayor stressed that drug and substance abuse has become a significant concern affecting the community, and he believes that proactive measures are essential for helping young people build brighter futures.
“This is a matter of top priority we say no to drug and substance abuse amongst all age groups in our community,” BoyBoy Mosia stated.
Meanwhile, Regina Munyamani, National Chairperson of the Community for Action Group and Economic Development from Masvingo, echoed the need for continued mobilization against drug use.
“As we were doing the cleaning campaign, we came across a lot of alcohol and drug empties, which shows how much the community often uses these harmful substances. I think the community needs to mobilize awareness campaigns and try to stop it before it gets out of hand,” Munyamani said.
The junior mayor also mentioned that they have been engaging in video film screenings at several urban and rural high schools, including St. Mary’s and St. Joseph, as a way to raise awareness among teenagers.
Mosia is looking forward to establishing more awareness campaigns, believing that with support from stakeholders, they can initiate effective drug awareness programs for all age groups in the community.
