Zimbabwe’s Parliament is currently handling 16 bills, reflecting a busy legislative agenda that spans social welfare, health, mining, education, environment, tourism, and national security.

According to the latest update, seven bills from 2024 are still in progress, while nine new bills introduced in 2025 are moving through different stages of the law-making process.

From the earlier batch, the Parks and Wildlife Amendment Bill has been transmitted to the Senate, and the Medical Services Amendment Bill has reached its second reading in the National Assembly. Others, including the Insurance and Pensions Commission Amendment Bill, the State Service (Pensions) Bill, and the Mines and Minerals Bill, are before the Parliamentary Legal Committee.

Of the 2025 bills, two the Pipelines Amendment Bill and the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Amendment Bill are already at second reading stage. The Climate Change Management Bill, gazetted in August, is awaiting circulation of house copies, while the Occupational Safety and Health Bill has been presented to the relevant ministry. Several others, such as the Tourism Bill and Public Service Amendment Bill, are undergoing legal review.

The outstanding bills, including the Biological and Toxin Weapons Crimes Bill, Postal and Telecommunications Amendment Bill, and Police Amendment Bill, are still in draft or awaiting gazetting.

Parliament says the raft of bills demonstrates government’s determination to update laws and strengthen institutions, while addressing critical areas such as disability rights, environmental protection, and public safety.
