KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has expressed renewed optimism regarding the investigation into the high-profile murders of South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. In a recent interview with eNCA, Commissioner Mkhwanazi revealed that significant developments have emerged, bringing investigators closer to solving this tragic case, which has captured the attention of the nation.
Highlighting the ongoing efforts, Mkhwanazi stated that additional arrests are imminent as the police intensify their focus on uncovering the masterminds behind the assassination.
“We’re focusing on uncovering the root cause—the people who orchestrated this. The puzzle pieces are aligning, and we’re determined to present compelling evidence in court,” he said.
The commissioner hinted at potentially startling revelations that may shed light on how the murders were carried out, indicating that investigators are pursuing leads that could expose the full extent of the conspiracy involved.
More than a year after AKA and Tibz were shot dead outside a popular restaurant in Durban, progress has been made, with several suspects already apprehended.
Notably, two individuals are currently in custody in Eswatini as authorities await their extradition to South Africa.
Mkhwanazi assured the public that the police are committed to following proper procedures to facilitate a seamless extradition process and bring the suspects to justice.
The investigation into the murders has sparked diverse reactions among South Africans. While some express skepticism, fearing the case may become yet another cold case like the unresolved murder of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa, others feel hopeful given the renewed efforts under the current police leadership.
One local voiced concern, stating, “This case is going to drag on for years, just like the Senzo Meyiwa case.” Conversely, a more optimistic citizen remarked, “Bheki Cele is no longer the minister, so I have hope now. AKA will get justice.”
As the investigation unfolds, the families of the victims and fans alike remain hopeful for closure and accountability in a case that has left many questions unanswered.
