Police in Beitbridge have arrested two individuals Charles Gumbo (56) and Witness Chinemo (43) involved in the unlawful possession of a large quantity of contraband shipment of Broncleer Cough Syrup valued at USD 16,400.
Broncleer syrup is a medication that is commonly used as a cough suppressant
Police intercepted a haulage truck and apprehended the driver, Charles Gumbo and passenger Witness.
The police state that the truck was found to be carrying Broncleer Cough Syrup, a substance often misused for recreational purposes, with a street value estimated at USD 16,400.
” Police in Beitbridge intercepted a haulage truck and arrested the truck driver, Charles Gumbo (56) and passenger, Witness Chinemo (43) for unlawful possession of a contraband of Broncleer Cough Syrup with a street value of USD 16 400.00.”
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face serious charges related to drug trafficking.
In a separate incident just a day earlier, on April 17, 2025, Priviledge Ndudzo (28) was arrested in Kambuzuma for unlawful possession of dagga, also known as skunk. Additionally, police in Mbare Musika apprehended Fracia Mupfumbe (41) and Getrude Bhinza (50) on similar charges of possessing dagga.
These arrests show ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the rising trend of drug abuse and trafficking in Zimbabwe.
The suspects will appear in court soon as the law takes its course.
