Bulawayo police have intercepted a suspected smuggler and recovered a large consignment of restricted cough syrups during an anti-smuggling operation carried out on Monday, September 15, 2025.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), officers on deployment along Solusi Road stopped a Toyota Hilux vehicle and discovered 239 x 100ml bottles of Benylin Cough Syrup and 1 297 x 100ml bottles of Broncleer Cough Syrup hidden inside.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Malvin Ncube (36), reportedly fled from the scene and is still at large. Police have since launched a manhunt.
Authorities have intensified anti-smuggling operations across the country, citing the growing abuse of Broncleer and Benylin cough syrups for recreational purposes as a public health concern.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the recovery of the contraband and urges members of the public to shun drug and substance abuse,” read part of the update shared on the ZRP’s official X account.
Police have appealed for information that may lead to Ncube’s arrest.
