SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi has made a clarion call for all armed groups and opposing forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to cease all forms of hostilities and adhere to the agreed truce. His remarks came during the SADC Ministerial Committee of Organ Troika meeting held in Harare yesterday.
“We should call upon all the groups and opposing forces to cease forms of hostilities and comply with the agreed truce,” Magosi stated, emphasizing the urgent need for peace in the region.
The event is part of a series of high level meetings preceding the Extra ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government which was chaired by H. E President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Summit aimed to review the security situation in the region, with a particular focus on the ongoing challenges in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and post electoral violence in Mozambique.
The call for peace comes amid escalating tensions and conflict in the DRC, where various armed groups have been engaged in hostilities, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The SADC’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and fostering stability in the region is seen as a critical step towards achieving lasting peace.
The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for the stability of the region as a whole.
