The road to the continental club glory continues as the CAF Champions league quarter finals second leg is set to kick off today with some juicy encounters on the cards.
Following their 1-0 victory in the first leg at home against Esperance, South African giants and 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns will look to build on their lead, focusing on scoring rather than conceding, to secure a semi-final spot. However, backed by the home crowd Esperance will be looking forward to redeem themselves on home soil.
Fellow South Africans and 1995 champions Orlando Pirates will face MC Algiers in South Africa. The Buccaneers won their first leg 1-0 away from home and with this narrow margin between the two teams, fans will be looking forward to an epic showdown for the semi-final spot at Orlando Stadium tonight.
Meanwhile, Egyptian giants and defending champions Al Ahly SC will battle Sudan’s Al Hilal and following their 1-0 victory, the Red devils will be looking forward to wrap the tie and secure a semi-final spot for them to defend the title.
Fellow Egyptian side Pyramids FC will face Moroccan side Far Rabat to seal a semi final spot. Pyramids headlined quarter finals first leg encounters with the biggest win of the round as they effortlessly cruised past 4-1 against FAR Rabat at home.
In this year’s CAF Champions League, only Al Ahly SC has won the title over the past 5 years; hence, if the Red Devils fail to secure a semi-final spot, the continent will be guaranteed a different champion this year
South Africa and Egypt have two teams still in the competition which gives them and fans from the two countries are hopeful of their representatives landing the title.
