As the alarming increase of rape cases involving minors and people who are supposedly their safeguarders continue, a principal from a Harare college has been sentenced to an effective 9 year jail term after conviction on rape charges.

The sexual predator pounced on a  16 year old Form three student and the Harare Magistates’ Court found enough evidence to convict the offender and sentence him to 12 years in prison with three of those suspended.

Facts presented in court stated that on the 13th of June 2025, the offender and the victim went to a sports event and upon their return, the offender parked his vehicle in front of the school reception.

He then  moved from the driver’s seat to the back seat, where he attempted to undress the victim. When she refused and pinched him on the neck, he overpowered her and raped her. The victim screamed for help and a security guard approached the car and spoke to the offender who had quickly dressed. She could not hear their conversation since the offender was walking away from the car with the security guard.

The offender came back and drove the victim to her place of residence. The matter came to light when the offender called the victim on her mobile phone and the victim mistakenly added her brother on a conference call. Upon counselling, the victim revealed her ordeal to her pastor.
