BEITBRIDGE has gone without electricity after strong winds that accompanied a heavy downpour on Monday floored electricity transmission poles.
Heavy rains measuring 26.7 mm was recorded in Beitbridge on Monday with winds at about 25 knots (46.5 km/h) leaving a trail of destruction on several structures in Dulivhadzimu and the industrial area.
A man survived after he was washed away by the Wamlala River which cuts across Dulivhadzimu on its course to the Limpopo.
Witnesses are reported to have jumped to rescue the man whose misfortune has been widely circulated on social media.
He was walking with another group of seemingly yippy group when Wamlala roared and swept him off his feet.
A source at the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said some poles near the town gave in cutting power supply.
Several makeshift cabins across the town were blown away while roadsnwere extensively damaged.
