CHRISTMAS came early for children at Thakalani Children’s Home on Tuesday when Zimborders surprised the small orphanage with groceries and festive gifts as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment.
Located in Beitbridge’s Medium-density suburb, Thakalani Children’s Home currently shelters 11 children slightly above its official maximum capacity of 10.
The home cares for boys and girls aged between 10 months and 15 years, and only two of the children are currently enrolled in school.
Founded on a vision by Florence Ncube, Thakalani is a registered Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) which officially opened in 2022, its operations began in 2018.
The home is supported by two devoted caregivers whose compassion, patience and daily sacrifices form the backbone of its daily operations. Volunteers also assist whenever possible.
During the donation ceremony, Zimborders Employers Representative Travor Ncalo said the gesture reflects the organisation’s passion for giving back.

“This project is an extension of the community work we are already doing,” Ncalo said.
“We are grateful for the chance to bring smiles to the children here at Thakalani. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives continue next week with a school shoe distribution programme, and we are also renovating computer laboratories in surrounding schools. Our goal is to keep making an impact.”
The donation was warmly received by Ncube, who expressed deep appreciation for the food and gifts, noting how much they mean to the children.
“On my own, without the help of the community, I could not meet all the needs of these young ones,” she said.
“Our mission is to show these children unconditional love, to help restore what has been broken and speak life where there has been pain. But we cannot do it alone. That is why Zimboarders’ presence here is so meaningful. When you choose to support vulnerable children, you become vessels of love and hope.”

Ncube noted that school fees remain one of the orphanage’s greatest challenges.
“Only two children are enrolled in school. We appeal for assistance, because these children are the future leaders of tomorrow,” she said.
She thanked Zimborders for their support.
“On behalf of the children, our caregivers and the entire Thakalani family, thank you for your generosity. May you be blessed beyond measure.”
The visit ended with smiles, laughter and the promise of a brighter festive season for the children—made possible through a partnership rooted in compassion and community
