Mutare, Zimbabwe – Three men have been convicted for touting at Christmas Pass Zuva Service Station following a police crackdown on illegal transport activities.

The Mutare Magistrates’ Court found Lameck Nyamugafata (46), Progress Maorere (18), and Charles Mushambi (36) guilty of touting, after their arrest on 25 August 2025 during a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) operation code-named “No to Touts.”

According the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe, the trio was shouting at travellers “Penhalonga, Penhalonga, handei!” while aggressively directing commuter omnibuses, causing disturbance and inconvenience to the public.

Each offender was fined USD100 or sentenced to 30 days imprisonment in default of payment.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe emphasized the impact of such offences, noting:

“Touting is not only unlawful but creates disorder and discomfort for travellers.”

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure orderly and safe public transport services in Mutare and surrounding areas.
