Mutare– A man from Mutumbami Business Centre in Odzi, Manicaland province will rue the day he failed to control his temper as he will spend the next eight years of his life in prison after being convicted of attempted murder by the Magistrates Court.
Emmanuel Murimba (29) was convicted at the close of the state’s case after it was proved beyond reasonable doubt that he attacked the complainant Talent Mukodza (36) with intent to cause harm.
It was the state’s case that on the 15th of May 2024 at around 1300hrs, the complainant, Talent Mukonza (36) was sitting at his home when the accused person arrived and started shouting at him saying that his cattle had grazed in his maize field. An altercation ensued and the accused person kicked the complainant once on his chest. He also struck the complainant once on the left rib with a brick and the complainant fell. He sat on the complainant’s back and hit him with a stone several times on the head. The accused person was restrained from assaulting the complainant by neighbours. The complainant went and locked himself inside the house and the accused person followed him holding a log threatening to kill him.
The accused person was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment of which 1 year was suspended for 5 years leaving him to serve 8 effective years.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe continues to urge members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
