Wage disputes are a common feature in the Zimbabwean economy especially with the economy being dominated by the informal sector and Small to Medium Enterprise but for Sithembiso Bunzirikawa, she took it too far and ended up breaking the law.
In an attempt to recover her wages from her employer, Budzirikawa is alleged to have taken a live tortoise t from Chabwino farm in Goromonzi to her workplace where she demanded her unpaid wages.
Upon realizing that she was not getting the money, the accused person threatened the Human Resources Manager with the tortoise. She threatened to use the tortoise to get her money. The tortoise was covered in red floor polish and a red piece of cloth with needles tied around it.
A Police report was made and the accused person failed to produce a permit granting her the authority to move the tortoise as she had done leading to her arrest. She was charged under the Wildlife Act and convicted at the Harare Magistrates Court, the court ordered Budzirikawa to pay a fine of USD300 or 3 months imprisonment.
