When addressing the Second Climate Change and Development Conference in Harare yesterday, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga reiterated Zimbabwe’s commitment to reducing vulnerability to climate impacts and creating an enabling environment for mainstreaming climate change considerations into national strategies.

The Vice President highlighted the significance of Climate Change Adaptation, particularly in the wake of increasing extreme weather events that have devastated vulnerable regions such as Manicaland, Masvingo, and Matabeleland.

“Adapting to climate change is a priority,” he asserted, drawing attention to the importance of reviewing national strategies as outlined in the Zimbabwe National Climate Change Adaptation Plan. This plan aims to enhance community resilience and inclusively address local vulnerabilities.

Furthermore, the Vice President stressed that climate change poses a multi-faceted crisis that threatens health, economic stability, and social cohesion. In response to these challenges, he urged participants to engage actively in discussions on strategic investments and innovative solutions that can drive climate resilience.

As the conference progresses, stakeholders are expected to delve deeper into actionable strategies that align with the Vice President’s call for unity and proactive engagement in the fight against climate change, reinforcing the collective effort needed to address this critical issue.
