The Zambia U17 women’s team suffered a 1-0 loss against Brazil in the 8th edition of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic. This marks the Copper Princesses’ first appearance in the U17 tournament since 2014.
Zambia began their match against Brazil with a promising display until Melo Harris Juju, the USA-based Brazilian number 9, turned the tide with a sensational first-half goal that shattered the Copper Princesses at Felix Sanchez Stadium.
Brazil’s victory over Zambia places them at the top of Group D, followed by Japan and Poland, who each have 1 point, while Zambia is left at the bottom with 0 points.
Importantly, no Brazilian women’s team has ever won a global title, and after defeating Zambia, they are hopeful of ending their title drought.
In other matches, Nigeria U17 is leading Group A after defeating New Zealand U17 4-1, leveling with Ecuador but ahead by goal difference. Meanwhile, the 2018 champions and current defending champions, Spain, are leading Group B after decisively defeating USA U17W 3-1.
