Zimbabwean vlogger and influencer Kundai Chitima has slammed his home country, branding it it’s worst enemy , this after he was denied permission to shoot footage for social media content by authorities at the Great Zimbabwe monuments.
In a recent blog post, Chitima reflected on his personal experience while traveling to Masvingo, where he had hoped to capture and share the beauty of the Great Zimbabwe Ruins.
“I had a bad experience at the Great Zimbabwe Ruins after I spent my money on fuel to travel as far as Masvingo, only to be denied the opportunity to capture content,” Chitima stated.
The restrictions on photography and videography have raised concerns among local creators, who argue that such policies stifle creativity and limit exposure for Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage. Chitima ‘s sentiments resonate with many in the community who feel that their skills and contributions could significantly benefit the tourism sector.
Chitima highlighted the need for a shift in mindset regarding collaboration and the potential benefits of social media in promoting national tourism.
“We are our own enemies, Zimbabweans,” Chitima stated.
Some fans have rallied behind to Chitima ‘s claim of advocating for fellow Zimbabweans to learn to support their fellow countrymen.
“ We need to start opening our eyes, we are jealous of one another as Zimbabweans , if It was Wodemaya I guess he would have been given even free accommodation there and to showcase the place ,” a fan stated.
