The Zimbabwe netball national team kicked off their campaign at the New Celtic Cup with a resounding 54-46 victory over Northern Ireland in Scotland yesterday.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Mushore played an instrumental role in the win, earning the title of Player of the Match for her impressive performance.

At just 23 years old, Mushore showcased her exceptional defensive qualities and scoring ability, allowing the Zimbabwe Gems to secure a successful start in their tournament debut. Her tenacity and skill in the goal circle were pivotal in maintaining a strong lead throughout the match.

The New Celtic Cup, organized by Netball Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales Netball, aims to provide a competitive platform for athletes and fans alike, extending beyond the scope of the World Cup and Commonwealth Games.

 This year’s tournament features a round-robin format, running from November 7 to 10, 2024.

Looking ahead, the Zimbabwe Gems will next face Scotland on Friday, November 8, 2024, before rounding off the round-robin stage with a match against Wales on Saturday. Following their initial win, the team is eager to build on their momentum and enhance their chances of qualifying for the finals.
