Polokwane– 51-year-old Zimbabwean national’s luck ran out on the N1 highway near Polokwane when he was caught driving a stolen luxury SUV worth over R2.5 million.
The vehicle, a Nissan Patrol V8 5.6, had been taken in Brooklyn, Pretoria, but its journey towards the Beitbridge Border Post for likely smuggling into Zimbabwe was cut short thanks the collaborative efforts between the Limpopo Provincial Police and private security partners.
Police had received intelligence about a stolen vehicle heading towards the Beitbridge border, and they set up an operation to track it down. When the vehicle was spotted near Shell Ultra City, the team sprang into action, intercepting the driver and recovering the stolen SUV.
Further investigation confirmed the vehicle’s as the one stolen, and the driver was arrested on the spot. He faces charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and is expected to appear in court soon.
The successful recovery of the vehicle shows the effectiveness of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private security partners.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo has praised the team’s swift action, highlighting the importance of teamwork in combating crime.
