Brian Zimbume a Customer Services Agent at Zimborders has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for fraud and smuggling-related offenses committed at the Beitbridge Border Post in September 2024.
According to the reports Zimbume deceived ZIMRA officials into giving him access to their scanning tablets, claiming he needed to fix system issues.
Instead, he used the devices to illegally approve the release of three Scania trucks carrying 96 tonnes of chrome concentrate into South Africa without proper clearance.
Alternatively, Zimbume faced charges under the Customs and Excise Act for smuggling the chrome shipments, potentially prejudicing the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority of revenue.
The court found his actions to be deliberate and unlawful, leading to his conviction and custodial sentence.
