The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have intensified their war against drug abuse, with fresh arrests recorded in Masvingo and Middle Sabi on 6 September 2025.

Police confirmed that six suspects Courage Mahachi (32), Christopher Takunda Magumise (25), Cogence Chimombe (27), Motion Rutsvara (38), Maxwell Mukaro (53), and Theni James (39) were arrested at Mupandawana Growth Point in Gutu for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The arrests led to the recovery of several illicit substances, including Broncleer Cough Syrup, Stilpane Cough Syrup, Benylin Cough Syrup, Astra Pain Cough Syrup, and dagga, which are often linked to substance abuse among youths.

In a separate incident the same day, police in Middle Sabi arrested Delight Sithole (25) at the 255-kilometre peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road. He was found in possession of seven kilogrammes of dagga.

The latest arrests come amid ongoing nationwide drug raids, as authorities move to contain the growing menace of drug abuse, which has been blamed for fuelling crime, violence, and social decay, particularly among young people.

Police have reiterated their warning to those dealing in illicit substances, stressing that drug-related crimes will be met with decisive action.

The ZRP urged communities to play an active role in the fight against drugs by reporting peddlers and suspicious activities.
