The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 748 suspects in an ongoing nationwide crackdown on illegal firearms, misuse of toy guns, and possession of dangerous weapons.
The operation, code-named “No to Illegal Firearms, Misuse of Toy Guns and Dangerous Weapons,” was launched on September 1, 2025 and has already netted hundreds of offenders.
Police say arrests have been made for offences including possession of unlicensed firearms, failure to renew firearm certificates, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons, and the misuse of toy guns.
In a statement, ZRP reiterated its commitment to enforcing the Firearms Act (Chapter 10.09), warning that any deviation from regulations governing firearm possession and certification constitutes a chargeable offence.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that any deviation from the regulations regarding firearms possession and certification is a chargeable offence,” said Commissioner Nyathi, the ZRP Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations.
Members of the public have been urged to report suspicious activities related to firearms. Reports can be made via the National Complaints Desk (0242 703631), the dedicated WhatsApp line (0712 800 197), or at any nearest police station.
The operation remains ongoing as authorities step up efforts to curb violent crime and ensure public safety across the country.
