 The Zimbabwe Republic Police has provided an update on the recent fatal road traffic incidents that occurred in Mahuwe and Mazowe, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals.

According to police reports, the first accident took place at the 101-kilometre peg along the Mvurwi-Kanyemba Road in Mahuwe on 12th May 2025.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police released the names of the five victims who were killed in the Mahuwe accident. The victims were identified by their next of kin as listed Gilbert Katyamakwara (50), male, of Chitauro Village, Chief Bepura, Guruve, Nelisa Majasi (8), female, of Chitauro Village, Chief Bepura, Guruve, Nevy Samunawu, female, of Chitauro Village, Chief Bepura, Guruve, Chiseche Mafuta (48), female, of Magaya Village, Chief Bepura, Guruve, Murambiwa Joyce (49), female, of Marumahoko Village, Chief Bepura, Guruve.

The second accident occurred on 13th May 2025 at the 52-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road in Mazowe. The death toll from this incident has risen to six, with five victims identified thus far as  Future Chikudza (51), male, of Zimre Park, Harare, Tatenda Samatha Ngundu (29), female, of Munyarari Village, Zimunya, Mutare, Heather Mashiri (70), female, of South View, Harare, Flosky Ngundu (5 months old), male, of Munyarari Village, Zimunya, Mutare, Anotida Denzel Mawadze (19), male, of Westley, Harare.

One additional female victim from the Mazowe accident remains unidentified pending next of kin confirmation.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has emphasized the importance of road safety, urging motorists to avoid speeding and to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.

“Motorists should prioritize road safety and avoid speeding. Above all, drivers are urged to abide by the country’s road rules and regulations to curb road accidents and safeguard human lives,” said the Police in the statement carrying the update.
