The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Limpopo Province are always on their toes as the province is a hub of transnational criminal gangs due to its proximity to the Beitbridge border post, a gateway to the rest of Africa.

In their latest bust, members of SAPS Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task Team recovered a stolen vehicle worth R4 million belonging to a Member of Parliament allegedly taken at a parking lot in Menlyne Mall, Pretoria, and being smuggled to Zimbabwe. The police’s swift response made it possible for them to intercept and apprehend the suspect in Lebowakgomo policing area outside Polokwane.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift and effective response of the members of SAPS Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task Team in the case.

She also emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in combating crime and ensuring that such organized crimes are resolved promptly, further stating that the successful operation underscores the commitment of the South African Police Service to uphold justice and security.

” I would like to express gratitude to the public and all involved in bringing this matter to a swift resolution and reaffirm the police’s dedication to safeguarding the community and preventing criminal activities,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe

The suspect, a 42-year-old Zimbabwean national was charged with possession of presumed stolen motor vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act after it established that he was in the country illegally. He is expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on August 12. He is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to address the full scope of the crime and potential accomplices.
