Polokwane- Smuggling and carjacking syndicates continue using Limpopo province as their outlet for their shenanigans into the rest of the Southern African region particularly Zimbabwe but to their credit, the South African Police Services, (SAPS) has managed to ruffle these well organised groups making numerous arrests and recoveries week in week out.
Of note has been the theft of vehicles from Gauteng province to be smuggled into neighbouring Zimbabwe. Members of Limpopo SAPS Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task Team have been on high alert intercepting several such vehicles.
This past Thursday, the team arrested a 32-year-old man,or possession of presumed stolen motor vehicle, following a tip-off about a stolen vehicle that was in progress of being smuggled out of the country to Zimbabwe through Beitbridge Port of entry according to a statement issued by SAPS.
“The team responded promptly, and a white Toyota Prado vx, which was reported stolen on Monday, 05 August 2024 in Villieria policing area, Pretoria in Gauteng province was spotted at the R37 from Lebowakgomo to Polokwane. The Police stopped the vehicle, and upon searching it, the driver, who is a South African, was unable to produce the valid documents of the vehicle. He was apprehended on the spot for possession of presumed stolen motor vehicle a white Toyota Prado, is at a value of R900 000.
The arrested suspect will appear before the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 August 2024.
Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest and commended the members for always being dedicated to their duties and persistently recover the stolen vehicles.
