The African sports media fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of Malian sports journalist Mohamed Soumaré, who was found dead in his hotel room in Rabat, Morocco, where he was covering the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to Zim Sports Flash, Soumaré, who was in Morocco on professional assignment for the continental showpiece, was a highly respected figure in Malian football journalism and administration.
His death has sent shockwaves across the African sporting community, with colleagues, football officials and media practitioners expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
At the time of his passing, Soumaré was serving as Media Officer for Stade Malien, one of Mali’s most prominent football clubs.
He also held a key role as Manager of Marketing, Television and Media for the Mali Professional Football League, where he played a central part in shaping media relations and promoting the domestic game.
