Harare – Air Zimbabwe has unveiled new flight services connecting Harare to Mutare, with operations scheduled during the upcoming Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo from 8 to 14 September 2025.
The national carrier confirmed that fares will start at US$85 (approx. R1,615) for a one-way ticket and US$150 (approx. R2,850) for a return journey between Harare and Mutare. The flight takes just 30 minutes, offering a faster alternative to the four-hour road trip to the Eastern Highlands.
In addition, Air Zimbabwe announced that passengers will be able to connect from Mutare to Victoria Falls, with one-way fares starting at US$179 (R3,265) and return tickets at US$310 (R5,660).

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among the travelling public. Some welcomed the revival of air services to Mutare, hailing it as a milestone for domestic tourism and regional connectivity.
Others, however, voiced concerns over the affordability of tickets, the readiness of Mutare Airport, and Air Zimbabwe’s reliability, with many comparing the fares to cheaper bus and car travel.
The airline has not yet indicated whether the Mutare route will extend beyond the Expo period, but tourism players say the launch is a positive step in boosting access to the Eastern Highlands.
