Beitbridge East emerged victorious in the netball tournament at the Vice President Dr. Kembo Mohadi Sports Gala, held at Roonies Arena, walking away with R125 000, a trophy, and jerseys for their outstanding performance.

The two-day event drew athletes, youths, and community members from across Matabeleland South, showcasing soccer, netball, and boxing talent.

Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Beitbridge East netball captain Kesty Chauke praised the tournament’s role in youth empowerment.

“It was tough, with matches on November 14 – 15, but we took first place and we really appreciate Mohadi’s support because it helps us avoid drugs and build communication skills and unity in society,” she said.

Insiza South earned silver, taking home R85 000, a trophy, and jerseys, while Gwanda Tsitaudze claimed bronze along with R30 000, a trophy, and jerseys.

In Football, Gwanda South’s football team lifted the gold medal, walking away with a trophy and R125 000 in prize money.

Silver went to Insiza South, who received R85 000, a trophy, and medals, while Mzingwane Constituency claimed bronze along with R30 000, a trophy, and medals.

Team captain Nkomo expressed his gratitude for the tournament’s impact on youth development.

“I am very happy for winning the VP Mohadi tournament because it helps us, the youth, stay away from drugs, grow our talent and find employment. Some of our players could be noticed by premier‑team managers,” he said

Top individual honours also went to standout athletes.

Dennis Machineripi from Insiza North was named Best Football Player, receiving R3 000, while Sharon Mugwara of Gwanda Tsitaudze earned Best Netball Player with R3 000.

Special awards for discipline highlighted Bulilima as the Most Disciplined Football Team and Gwanda North as the Most Disciplined Netball Team.

The VP Kembo Mohadi Sports Gala continues to showcase the power of sport in promoting talent, discipline, and social cohesion among the youth of Matabeleland South.
