AUTHORITIES at Beitbridge Hospital have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying and locating relatives of 23 unclaimed bodies currently at the hospital mortuary.
In a press release dated March 4, 2026, hospital officials made a list of the deceased persons, some of whom have been at the mortuary since early 2025.
These include a skeleton, newborn babies, adult men and several unidentified individuals whose remains were brought in by police or members of the public.
In most cases, the causes of death are listed as unknown, while others were recorded as brought in dead.
Among the listed cases are six newborn babies from various health institutions, including Mvhenzi, Bishopstone, Shashe and Chapfuche hospitals. Most of the infants’ causes of death were recorded as unknown.
The list also includes identified adult males such as a 30-year-old man and a 44-year-old man from Gokwe who died in March 2025.
Several unidentified adult males were brought in by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Urban, Traffic and Beitbridge Rural units on different dates throughout 2025.
One case from September 2025 indicates severe head injuries resulting from a road traffic accident, while another cites acute respiratory failure due to chemical ingestion.
Members of the public with missing relatives are encouraged to visit the mortuary at Beitbridge District Hospital or contact hospital authorities for further information.
