TWO men have landed in court on allegations of having been found with more than half a ton of processed Mbanje.

Isaac Marume and Blessing Matsikarima will formally apply for bail before Beitridge Regional Magistrate Charity Maphosa on Tuesday.

Their lawyer Julius Maphosa of Musina and Associates yesterday told the Regional Court that by consent the two would formally apply for bail.

“It is by consent that we will make our bail application tomorrow,” Maphosa sad when the duo briefly appeared in the regional court.

According to State papers, precisely an affidavit by one of the arresting officers Sergeant Jonnah Mwinde of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Marime and Matsikerima were arrested at Lion and Elephant Motel along the road to Harare from Beitbridge.

Mwinde of the ZRP Intelligence Section, currently attached to National Taskforce for Anti-Smuggling operating along Beitbridge-Masvingo corridor said the two were arrested on February 26 at night.

He said Marume approached his team manning a roadblock and requested to pass with his groceries without being searched which was unusual.

“He indicated that his groceries were loaded in a Nissan Caravan and he had declared them,” Mwinde said in a sworn affidavit.

Marume is said to have left but the cops were already suspicious and agreed to thoroughly search the same Nissan when it arrived.

The car came after a short while while Marume escorted it with a car without number plates.

The car was searched and 32 bales of dagga which were hidden under spaghetti, king kurls snacks and hello snacks were recovered from Matsikarima ‘s car.

They were both arrested.
