Beitbridge – In a major step toward digital transformation in the justice delivery in Beitbridge, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has launched the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) at the Beitbridge Magistrates Court.
The digital platform which has already been rolled out in some areas across the country, aims to streamline case handling, improve transparency, and modernize the delivery of justice. The first court session in Beitbridge under the IECMS is expected to go live on October 1, 2025, making it a pilot hub for digital court operations in the province.
Speaking at the official launch, JSC Secretary Mr. Walter Chikwana said the Commission is taking proactive steps to ensure all stakeholders are ready for the transition.
“On the 7th and 8th of August, we will be conducting stakeholder training sessions to ensure that everyone from legal practitioners to members of the public is fully equipped to use the IECMS,” said Mr. Chikwana.
He noted that while the system has been warmly received in other pilot provinces, the rollout has not been without its challenges.
“The reception has been heartwarming, we’ve had tremendous cooperation from the public. However, we’ve encountered issues like lack of devices and limited internet access. To address this, we’ve set up internet hubs and IECMS e-filing offices,” Chikwana explained.
Emphasizing the platform’s security, he reassured citizens that measures have been taken to protect user data.
“We have engaged ICT experts whose sole mandate is to ensure the system is secure. Zimbabweans can be confident in the safety and integrity of this digital platform,” he said.
In a move that signals the JSC’s commitment to embracing innovation, Chikwana also revealed plans to incorporate artificial intelligence into the platform.
“We are looking forward to using AI for translation and transcription, especially for real-time translations into local languages. Very soon, court records will be available immediately after adjournment,” he announced.
Mr. Chikwana urged all citizens to familiarize themselves with the system, noting that registration is essential.
“Only those who are registered will be able to access and use the system effectively. We encourage everyone to register and take advantage of this progressive step,” he said.
The launch of the IECMS in Beitbridge marks a significant milestone for the Border town as it joins the judicial reform train. The digitalisation of the judiciary system aligns with the vision of a modern, efficient, and inclusive justice system in Zimbabwe.
