The Beitbridge Cricket Club is gearing up for a major comeback following a period of development.
The resurgence is fueled by a commitment from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to develop world class facilities in Matabeleland South province.
Founded by Previous Ndou, a dedicated teacher from Chasvingo who also serves as the team’s coach, the club has faced significant hurdles since its inception.
Despite a promising start, the club’s progress was hampered by a lack of resources.
“Our last major activity was in 2019 due to several challenges, including a shortage of income, equipment, and proper kit,” Ndou told Ziyah News Network. “Essentially, it came down to a broad lack of funding.”
The club’s administrative structure has also seen recent shifts. Farai Kazingizi has stepped in as the new Chairman, taking over from Khauelo Muleya.
This transition occurred after the club’s talent pool, previously concentrated at Nuli High School, shifted following staff movements to Manama.
Despite these logistical shifts, the mood within the camp is one of renewed optimism. The promise of new infrastructure from the national cricket board is expected to breathe fresh life into the local sporting scene.
The primary mission of the Beitbridge Cricket Club is to decentralize the sport and grow the player base across the entire region. To encourage participation, the club has removed financial barriers ànd joining is free for all player age groups from Under 13 to adult levels.
There is a deliberate intention of expanding the sport to every corner of Beitbridge.
“We are happy now because the promise of facilities will encourage players to come out in numbers,” Ndou said.
