An 18-year-old Beitbridge man, Allison Makupure, was remanded in custody on Tuesday, January 13, for allegedly threatening a taxi driver, Emanuel Guvaza, with a knife on December 18.
The incident was heard at Beitbridge Magistrate Court, where Makupure appeared before Magistrate Brenda Kachepa.
Court proceedings revealed that Makupure had requested a ride from Dulibadzimu bus terminus to Engine Garage but refused to pay the fare.
In response, Guvaza asked him to disembark at Beitbridge Hospital, explaining that he was taking a route to his home in the Dulibadzimu suburb, popularly known as Kuma 6.
Makupure insisted on being dropped off at Guvaza’s homestead, claiming it was closer to his destination.
Upon arrival, the argument heated and Makupure allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the taxi driver, prompting Guvaza to flee the vehicle and call for help.
Makupure was subsequently apprehended by a mob at the Dulibadzimu bus terminus and handed over to the police.
Prosecutor Tawanda Chigavazira presented the case, and Makupure pleaded guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Kachepa remanded him in custody, with judgment scheduled for January 15, 2026.
