Beitbridge West Constituency played host to a sports tournament in honour of the Vice President of Zimbabwe Rtd Colonel Kembo Mohadi who hails from the district. Featuring soccer and netball, the tournament attracted teams from the constituency, battling for supremacy for a chance to go and feature at the provincial level of the same tournament.
In an interview, Beitbridge West Legislator Honourable Thusani Ndou said the tournament has two objectives, to honour the Vice President and also empower young people who are talented and encourage them to take sport as career.
“The Vice President has done a lot politically and socially for this district and province as a whole, this tournament is to honour him for his work, we also wanted to empower young people through participating in sport, it will also take them away from ills like drugs,” he said.
Young people participated in a netball and soccer showcasing their skills in an event that attracted a huge crowd. Honourable Ndou also said he was pleased with the turnout and level of commitment displayed by the young people who participated in the tourney.
Ward 7 emerged the winners in both netball and soccer and will go on to the provincial finals set for Gwanda.In recognition of their hard work and dedication, Honourable Ndou presented the winning teams with sport kits, to encourage further participation in sports.
