Debutants Gwanda Pirates Football Club has been crowned the 2024 Matebeland South division 2 champions after defeating Jessie Mine FC to gain promotion into division one.

The Gwanda based club secured a 2-0 victory against Jessie Mine to take the championship ahead of their biggest rival in the league Mawabeni FC .

 The 9 months old club, Gwanda Pirates which was formed this year,  brought joy to their home fans by achieving division 1 promotion.

The champions took to their social media to appreciate their boys for displaying and incredible performance and showing determination towards the club‘s goal of achieving regional division 1 promotion.

“We are the 2024 Matabeleland South Division 2 champions, congratulations to the team what a season it has been …the boys who fought the last battle to win the war for us, a team formed 9 months ago has given birth to two children in that period i.e. :municipality of Gwanda cup and the ZIFA Mat league cup, ” said the club in the statement.

The Ezimnyama Ngenkani fans also took their social media to show their love and support after their club’s successful triumph. A large number of fans attended the club’s last match backing their players in the  crucial match cheering them on to division one promotion.

Meanwhile UNICEM Football Club has been relegated from the division 2 league, following their poor performance punctuated by inconsistency. The club recorded 16 defeats ,1 win and 2 draws during their entire season, a performance rated by many football followers as one of the worst ever in the division.
