Debutant Tinotenda Maposa showcased his composure under pressure, helping Zimbabwe secure a sensational two-wicket victory over Pakistan the gripping finale to the T20I series, the third and final match.

The win came with just one ball to spare, allowing Zimbabwe to avoid a series whitewash against a competitive Pakistan side that had already claimed the series 2-0.

Zimbabwe’s chase of a modest target of 133 runs started on a high note as openers Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani launched an aggressive assault during the powerplay, putting up a solid 40-run partnership.

The duo’s dynamic performance led to a swift 56 runs on the board for the loss of just one wicket, planting the seeds of hope for Zimbabwean fans.

However, Pakistan’s bowlers made inroads in the middle overs, with Abbas Afridi proving instrumental. He quickly claimed the wickets of Dion Myers and Wessly Madhevere, setting Zimbabwe back to 85/4 from a commanding 73/1.

A critical run-out of Ryan Burl further pushed Zimbabwe into a corner, leaving them precariously placed at 94/5 as they closed in on the target. Captain Sikandar Raza’s dismissal added to the mounting pressure, with the team still needing 21 runs to win.

Just when it seemed Pakistan would seal the deal, Maposa rose to the occasion, displaying remarkable poise and skill. In a nail-biting finish, he struck a four and then a six in the final over, much to the delight of the home crowd, clinching the victory and securing his place in Zimbabwean cricket history with a memorable debut performance.

Although Zimbabwe ended the series with a 2-1 result against Pakistan, the thrilling final match provided a much-needed morale boost for the team, showcasing their fighting spirit and resilience. Fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how Maposa’s career develops following his positive start.
