Bulawayo -The First Secretary of ZANU PF who is also the President of Zimbabwe has acknowledged some of the challenges facing the country but made a clarion call to the ruling party membership to make sure those challenges do not deter nor divert the revolutionary party from its people centric thrust of delivering to the masses of Zimbabwe.

He was speaking at the ZITF grounds yesterday where he officially opened the 21st ZANU PF National Peoples conference at the ZITF arena in Bulawayo.

“We are a Party of results, hence, the need to continually sharpen our Party’s policies. Strategies in this regard must remain robust and people-centred. Therefore, Conference has the obligation to recommit our Party, to deepening grassroots engagement and mobilisation, for both Party building and scaling up production and productivity as well as the implementation of projects. Challenges affecting our country, including illegal sanctions and climate change should never limit us,” said the ruling Party’s First secretary.

As he rallied gathered delegates and the ruling Party membership at large, he emphasised the importance of ZANU PF’s structures, calling to order leaders that are deliberately fanning confusion at grassroots levels.

“Party structures are critical for a strong foundation of the revolution. We should guard against infiltration into the structures and not to destroy the structures, I am aware that in some districts, chaotic records of members are deliberate and preferred by those holding Party positions to gain favour or advantage over others. This is unacceptable and must stop,” he said.

The ZANU PF First Secretary acknowledged the efforts being made to mobilise more member but challenged Party members to leverage on ICT’s in the mobilisation drive.

“Going forward, I challenge Party structures to demonstrate renewed vigilance by opening more innovative fronts to earn, keep and safeguard the people’s support. In this regard, I call upon the Leagues to continue harnessing ICT and the digital space towards heightening our mobilisation programmes and ongoing Party modernisation agenda.”

Conference delegates from across the country are expected to continue deliberating and come up with resolutions that will guide the Party and by extension Government as the ruling ZANU PF seeks to consolidate and give impetus to meeting the various expectations and aspirations of the Zimbabwean people.

The 21st conference is running under the theme, ‘Industrialise, Modernise Towards the Attainment of Vision 2030.’
